What Customers Say About Magellan Maestro 3140 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator:

I dont think I will ever pay to update a closed dedicated piece of hardware. A good day-to-day example would be Microsoft charging you $$$$$ to send OS updates. [4] Non-existent Magellan customer service.[5] Slow GPS acquisition.[6] No MP3 support. This will be my last Magellan product. Quite difficult if you dont have an AC Charger.[3] Map updates cost $79.99. Though the product is fine there are some quirks that everyone should know about - [1] Wall Charger is not included. I bought this Costco and have used it fairly across USA and Canada. Unit takes around 3 hours in the car to be charged completely.[2] Updates need a full battery. Period.

But if you want a GPS that gets you from point A to point B without any issues then I would look elsewhere. A few times when leaving our house it was convinced we were in a completely different state and it didn't update to our actual location until half an hour later.

I wish we had purchased a different GPS. A few times we have asked it directions to a place we know very well and asked for quickest route and it gave us the longest and most complex route possible.

And it doesn't always give the best directions. Most times it will get you to your destination, but I find myself printing online directions as a backup, just in case.

If you want a GPS that gets you from point A to point B then this does that. It sometimes has issues where it seems to not know where it is.

I just really expected more from it.

Worked ok, but maps were not as good or as accurate as my Handheld Garmin GPS. No longer own it.

The map is usually correct but spoken directions are somethings the opposite but I usually look at map to get better feel for location and degree of turn. The Points of Interest is not real complete or accurate but can often be helpful for many things. The Maestro 3140 seems much better than old Magellan RoadMate. It generally loads quickly and most directions seem fairly accurate. My unit sometimes gets right and left confused.

The 3140 outperforms the garmin in both ease of use and features. Hard to see that much benefit for the few times a road is inaccurate. have used it for the past 5 months. A 2008/2009 map update costs $80. Has a fast lock on satellites, holds the lock even in somewhat tree covered roads. I initially purchased a Garmin of similar level. The unit has performed flawlessly thus far. My one and only negative would be that the included maps are current to 3rd quarter 2006.

Only paid $200 for the unit. Returned it. Bought magellan maestro 3140 in april 2008. The 3140 easily takes me to all included addresses and POI's easily and relatively efficiently. Still, have thoroughly enjoyed using the unit.
